eye spy

i spy with my little eye
all that i can see:

light reflected, then refracted
image cast, reality reenacted

i wonder how, i wonder why
we each see differently, even when we try.

my interest in music (or anything divine, creative, fruitful, enriching) completely waned. I turned to beer. And cigarettes. And TV sitcoms. And candy bars. Oh well! A perfectly good youth wasted on junk food!

Rewind to moving season, which collides with our national holiday. it wasn’t quite Canada day, maybe it was the day after. Tired movers look forward to cracking open their cases of beer. The humidex wasn’t at its peak, but it wasn’t cool to say the least.

Before they drove off to freedom, two girls had to use the bathroom. One last piss in the pot, as they say. In the living room were two abandoned decks. One rides a bit wonky and the owners had no recollection of their acquisition. A forgotten item at a party once held, they assume.

What to do with unused, broken decks? The plight of the skateboarder can be the sound of the crack. I can compare it to my first broken hockey stick. You develop such a relationship and then >CRACK< you just lost a best friend.

Around a month ago, I heard about this project but more the pictures and less the details. Now that there’s a video and I feel more inclined to share the project.

Shwood experiments with life and creative pursuits. The woodshop seems like a magical place where decks get turned into sunglasses. I don’t care that wood isn’t the best material for glasses. I care that people run with their ideas. I about inspired and inspirational individuals.

This post goes out to my best friend Sarah, Happy Birthday (14hoursearly). Here’s to hoping our fishfriend never cracks.

Somehow I’ve become very cautious. When I put on a raincoat, I put on sunglasses too. Who knows when it will rain, or when it will turn out sunny?

1) Perhaps this describes perfectly this summer in Montreal.

2) I liked how action shots in this movie were scenes of blurred, streams of lines and neon lights.

Now playing at Cinema du Parc for a limited time, reissued on 35mm film.

Into the Vertebrate Brain
By Kara Cerveny and Steve Wilson, University College London
Similar to the fly eye, neurons from the vertebrate eye project to the brain. In fish and amphibia, the primary visual processing center is called the optic tectum. It not only receives and processes visual information, but it also integrates visual input with somatosensory inputs to initiate appropriate behaviors.
Image: This frontal transverse section of a ~5-day-old zebrafish depicts the path of the optic nerve from the retina to the optic tectum. Retinal ganglion cells are labeled with GFP (false -colored cyan) and a subset of glia and their associated neuropil are immunostained for the glutamine synthetase protein (purple). VIA

Pitchfork: Why were you thinking about insects while researching cover art possibilities?

BD: It has to do with the idea of eye contact itself— when I think of those two words, I picture these glowing insect eyes. To me, this record is much more direct for us. In the past, I imagined our music being more about closing your eyes and escaping. This one felt wide-eyed, as if we were just staring at the listener.

Gang Gang Dance’s latest album, Eye Contact, will be coming out at the beginning of May in select cities. You can download MindKilla for free off their site. For the rest of the interview by Pitchfork, click the link.

The idea of eye contact makes me think of the gross infections you can get when you abuse contact lens use… … . because i’m lame like that.
